Our Brilliance 40 CT scanner utilizes current state ot the art technology and provides rapid high resolution scanning. Hardware and software developed for cardiac scanning enables us to acquire and reconstruct data with sufficient speed, accuracy and resolution to detect early treatable coronary artery disease (atheromatous plaque within the lining if the vessels supplying the heart muscle). Early detection provides your physician the information required to treat early disease and prevent heart attacks and progression of CAD (coronary artery disease).
CCTA (coronary CTA) study of the heart vessels also is valuable in the followup of patients that are being treated for coronary disease or who have had prior interventions (coronary angioplasty/stent procedures or coronary artery bypass graft procedures). Anatomical and functional information about the heart available with this new technology also helps to plan interventional procedures, as well as detect certain variations in anatomy that might be important specifically in that treatment planning.
We now have a noninvasive accurate screening method of detecting early disease (ATHEROMA or FAT deposits) as well as following patients during therapy. The procedure is quite similar to any other CT scan and may be completed in as little as ten seconds. This early disease can result in acute coronary syndrome (HEART ATTACK) in as many as 1/3 of asymptomatic patients. This capability is exciting as approximately 40% of patients who currently have cardiac catheterization as a more invasive procedure have normal coronary arteries, more than half of heart attacks occur in patients under 65 (particularly in patients with family histories of early onset disease), or other risk factors, including being overweight, diabetes, elevated blood lipids, etc. CCTA now provides an inexpensive accurate alternative to CA (coronary angiography).
CTA / CT
The Brilliance 40 CT scanner also provides thinner section high resolution examinations in other CT applications including CTA of other vessels, studies of the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal applications (particularly helpful in the followup of orthopedic patients).
