The staff of the Imaging Center shares your concern about rising healthcare costs. We are attempting to reduce the cost of imaging procedures within the community while striving to maintain high standards of image quality and service. High-quality imaging equipment is expensive to purchase and maintain. If we are to continue to provide high-quality images at a competitive price, it is important that we receive timely payment for those services.
Some insurance companies require pre-authorization of certain procedures. Others have delayed processing of claims for certain procedures resulting in delays in payment for both the physician provider and the patient. As a convenience to you the patient, we file all claims directly with the insurance company and will assist you in obtaining the maximum fair payment for a given procedure. The Imaging Center is a Medicare approved facility and the physician staff accept assignment on all Medicare claims. Any balance not paid by Medicare is forwarded to the secondary insurance company, the balance is generally paid in full. The Imaging Center and physician provider staff also participate in most local managed care plans accepting payment in full for covered services of those plans which do not have co-insurance or deductible requirements. The patient is ultimately responsible for any known co-payment or deductible not satisfied at the time of service, as well as non-covered services. In order to assist us in providing quality services at a reduced cost, you will be asked to pay any deductible or co-payment amount at the time of service. Once payment is received by the insurance company, any unpaid balance is forwarded to you. In the event that the insurance company does not make payment within 45 days, the unpaid balance becomes your responsibility and we expect payment upon receipt of the final notice. Should either you or our billing staff feel that the insurance company has been remiss in payment for any given procedure, we will assist you in any way possible to obtain payment for that expense. In many cases a telephone call from you or our billing staff will be effective. In other cases a specific letter indicating the medical necessity for the procedure may have to be submitted by your physician. Financial hardship cases need to be discussed on an individual basis. Payment plans can be arranged.
We realize that the requirements of some commercial insurance companies impose a hardship and inconvenience for you. In most cases your physician and/or The Imaging Center staff are successful in obtaining payment which was initially denied due to restrictive policies, in some cases by filing an appeal. Fortunately, the majority of insurance companies pay promptly on claims submitted. Unfortunately, some cases require initial payment by the patient, until such time as the problem can be resolved.
Please understand that the phrase "usual and customary" as used by the insurance industry is totally unrelated to what local physician providers charge for services, but is the amount the insurance company is willing to pay.
At the time of scheduling or prior to your procedure, The Imaging Center will have established contact with your employer for approval of payment for your procedure. If your employer does not support your claim as worker's compensation you will be notified that payment is your responsibility.
PERSONAL INJURY CASES
Procedures performed for personal liability/injury cases are to be the responsibility of the patient. You will need to provide The Imaging Center with insurance information, your attorney's name and address, your automobile insurance and agent.
